I thought I knew everything there was to know about You Tube. I am a frequent user of the site, especially looking at videos for class. I did learn a thing or two though about how to upload videos and taking videos onto a Power Point.
Here is a link to one of our teacher’s favorite characters!!!! This one wasn’t shown at the beginning of the year.

I use to listen to a radio program in the mornings called the Ace and TJ show, but it was taken off the air. Until there was another program I liked just as well, I would listen to the Ace and TJ show through a Pod cast. I subscribed through Itunes for free and just sync my Ipod when I got home. I listened to it a lot at first but then I slowly stopped just because of time and schedule. That is really the only time I ever used pod casting.
The links of the 23 Things page would not pull up at school, so I just went to ebooks.com. I really hate books on tape. I just can’t make myself listen to one. When I read, I want to mark my text and question my text and think about what I’m reading. I want to analyze and reread. However, I do realize how books on tape could be very useful for students though. Students who have trouble reading could really benefit from having a book read to them, but I still don’t think that you get everything out of a book by listening to it on tape.
I really liked doing this program, but I already knew how to do a lot of the things that were taught. I learned this stuff because I grew up with a lot of it. I had never blogged before, but I knew how to do it. I am so glad I found ZoHo writer through this program. I really like using it. I thought flickr was fun. Those are the two things that stuck out in my mind the most. I can see how this program would be difficult and take much longer if you did not have a lot of web experience.

Things 18 & 19
Wow! I am in love with ZOHO! I never knew this existed! I feel like I have just been given a very expensive Christmas present. This does more than Microsoft Word and it does is so easily. My first bad thought came when I thought about saving documents though. Then when I went to save, it saves it on the web! I might have all my students in writing lab start using this wonderful tool! No more…I lost my flash drive and I didn’t have time to put it in my file locker and blah blah blah. The two major things I use on my computer are the internet and Microsoft Word. I feel like I don’t even need Microsoft Word anymore. You can import all the documents you want!
I added books to my library that were novels that I am teaching this year in my classes. I added:
#1 - The Kite Runner – 17140 members
#2 - The Old Man and the Sea – 7105 members
#3 - The House on Mango Street – 2318 members
#4 - A Lesson before Dying – 1583 members
#5 - To Live – 289 members
I was not surprised at all by The Kite Runner being the most popular because it is the most recent novel and was such a huge success, but I am surprised at A Lesson before Dying only have 1583 members. It was in Oprah’s Book Club!

Week 7
I went to Chuck’s class on wikis during our in-service on Halloween. I thought that they were really cool! This week gave me an excuse to take some time to explore the wikis for myself. In college, I often times had a class where I had to contribute to class post or discussion. Actually, in one of my grad classes, that is what the majority of one of the classes is. I really want to use wikis second semester in my writing lab classes. I am concerned about students being accountable and students being appropriate.
In that same grad class, we had to use a wiki page to introduce ourselves. While we have a discussion board for that class, my professor took it as an oppurtunioty to show us one aspect of the web since the class is all about teachers, technology, and the web. Perhaps that would be a great way to start out class next year with some ICE BREAKER BLOGGIN ON WIKI. Oh the idea is all coming to me now…We will see…

Week 6
De.licio.us, Technorati, and Copyright
I was already very aware of what tagging was. On face book, I am a big fan of the “de-tag” on pictures when I’m not looking so great! I have never heard to Del.icio.us though as a social book marking site. I think it’s a great tool but not one I would probably be interested in using in everyday life. I would probably only use it when working on a paper for graduate school.
I couldn’t understand what the purpose of Technorati was. It took me a minute. Basically it is a place for people to blog about things that are going on in the world. You can post videos and photos. I was not a fan of this site. I am not really interested in spending my time chatting with strangers about the news. Who has time for that? I can’t believe I say that when I’m the one who can’t allow my self on Facebook when I’m suppose to be doing school work!
Okay, at first I thought I might be able to show that video to my students, but I couldn’t stand to listen to Buzz Light year say “Copy” one more time! As far the discovery exercises go, I am confused by the question “What does Library 2.0 mean to you?” What I got from it was there are two sides of the debate. 1. You can’t share anything copyrighted or 2. It is ok to share things that are in a library. I think it is obvious that I love to share! I would have to say that it is okay to share things for educational purposes. Right?

Things 10, 11, & 12
Week 5 - Things 10, 11, & 12

I chose to use Big Huge Labs to create a magainze cover:
I also created a badge for Coach Lennon:
You can also see what the guys are really thinking:
Flickr won the award for photo and editing. I have been able to use this program through Learning 2.0. I really enjoyed the program, but I choose to tag my photos through my personal webpage because all of my friends use the same webpage program. I could play that Travel IQ all day!
Things 8 & 9
Week 4
I subscribed to New, Fun, Thinker, and two feeds for my APP English class. We are beginning Latin American Literature next semester and there will be a concentration on Julia Alavarez. I added two feeds from publication websites for her. What I like most about the feeds is that each student could pick something their own feeds or we could subscribe as a class about a certain subject.
In Writing lab, I could definitely use this because I could have all my students subscribe to the things that are interesting to them. Student's assignments could become personalized to their own interests.
I already have several newsfeed on my homepage that I read from time to time, but this is a way for a whole class to subscribe as a whole.

Things 5, 6, & 7
Week 3
This week I started on a new endeavor. I am creating a website for our wrestling team. I know how much work this is going to be, but I really hope the website helps promote our wrestling team. I would love to see the program expand. For our week in flickr, I uploaded the pictures that are going to be going on the website.
QOOP is an awesome third party site that allows you to do several different things with your photos such as calendars and posters. Using Big Hugs Labs, I was able to create a magazine cover using the senior wrestling team.
I am really interested in this Flickr program. I am doing a fundraiser for the wrestling team. I am going to be creating a poster of all the senior wrestlers. I had planned on using a printing company here in Chattanooga, but with these third party programs, I believe I can save a lot of money by creating the poster myself and simply ordering it. We will see…

Things 1 & 2
Here is what I wrote for my Week 1. I thought it might help to see what someone else did, although I'm not sure I would always follow my own lead. :)
The program is a tutorial program presented by the California School Library Association. The main purpose of the program is to allow teachers to experience and learn about the newest tools available on the internet, especially the ones that students are using everyday. The format of the tutorial is done with activities. There are twenty-three activities and each one explores a different tool on the internet.
7 ½ Habits of a Life Long Learner
My goal is to learn about technology that I can integrate into my writing lab courses. Right now, all we do is Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and the Internet. I want to know how I can let my students explore the tools of the internet and have fun.
I would have to say the easiest of the 7 ½ life long learning rules is “Create your own learning toolbox.” I am a very organized person, and I feel I can keep track of everything I need to remain a life long learner. I have kept a notebook or folder for each one of my college classes from my 300 levels and up. I have every paper I wrote in college on a flash drive.
I know I can always go to Nancy if I have any problems on my path to finishing the twenty-three things.
I would like to have my twenty-three things finished by the end of fall break. I am a full time graduate student, so I already have so many other due dates that I would like to finish up this program while I am not also teaching.

Week 2 - Things 1 - 4
Hello All! I can't believe I missed the breakfast. I heard it was wonderful! I am taking a course very similar to this in my graduate school program. It is called "Teacher as Learner" It focuses a lot on technology in the classroom and uses a lot of cool things on the internet that you can use with your students.
I had fun creating my avatar. I always related avatar with the Sims game, so I have always been weary of ever creating one. I added a cute bag and a dog, but the picture of that dog does not even begin to do my dog justice.
